Agazzi agrees summer move to Milan

AC Milan have agreed to sign Cagliari goalkeeper Michael Agazzi on a free transfer in the summer, .

The Rossoneri were on the lookout for a long-term successor to veteran keeper Christian Abbiati and they have reportedly agreed to sign Agazzi on a pre-contract deal.

The 29-year-old has been loaned to Chievo until the end of the season after refusing to extend his current deal with Cagliari that is due to expire in the summer.

After spending some time in Atalanta s famous youth academy, Agazzi started his professional career at South Tyrol and went on to play for Triestina, Sassuolo and Foggia before joining Isolani in 2010.

He immediately nailed down a regular starting berth and subsequently made a total of 122 Serie A appearances for Cagliari.

AC Milan too good for Slavia Prague in San Siro clash

AC Milan saw off 10-man Slavia Prague 4-2 at San Siro in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

After Slavia defender El Hadji Malick Diouf was shown a straight red card in the 26th minute, the Rossoneri made the most of their advantage with first-half goals from Olivier Giroud, Tijjani Reijnders and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

David Doudera had earlier given the Czech side hope with an fine strike to make it 1-1 and Ivan Schranz reduced the deficit midway through the second half before Christian Pulisic’s close-range effort late on gave Milan breathing space heading into the return leg.

Mahrez announces intention to leave Leicester

Riyad Mahrez wants to leave Leicester City, with the winger saying it is time for him to move on from the 2015-16 Premier League champions.

Algeria international Mahrez was named the PFA Player of the Year and scored 17 league goals as Leicester shocked the world by winning the title, but he has stated his intention to play regular Champions League football.

Leicester reached the quarter-finals of Europe s premier club competition before exiting to Atletico Madrid but they did not qualify for next season s tournament and Mahrez is now seeking a transfer from the club to fulfil his ambitions.

Out of the huge admiration and respect I hold for Leicester City, I wanted to be totally honest and transparent with them and have therefore informed the club that I fe…

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin has signed a contract extension until June 2019.

Sahin, who is in his second spell with the club having re-joined Dortmund from Real Madrid in 2014, told Dortmund s official website: Everyone knows how comfortable I feel in Dortmund – both in the city and in this stadium with our extraordinary fans.

BVB is the club that belongs to my heart.

Big Match Focus: Manchester United v Tottenham (Wednesday 19:30 GMT)

In August 2018, Mauricio Pochettino guided Tottenham to a 3-0 victory over Jose Mourinho s Manchester United at Old Trafford.

In hindsight, it was a defeat that appeared to signal the beginning of the end for Mourinho at United, with the Portuguese coach sacked four months later, replaced – initially on a temporary basis – by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Pochettino was heavily linked with the United hot seat, but Solskjaer s impressive run earned him the job permanently. But while Spurs went on to reach a Champions League final, the Red Devils form dropped off dramatically.

Now, 16 months on from that clash at Old Trafford, Mourinho returns to his former stomping ground for the first time since his December 2018 sacking, having taken over from Pochettino at Spurs …

Rodriguez linked with Newcastle switch

The Daily Star understands that Newcastle United could be set to make a move for Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez.

Representatives of the striker have been in talks with the North East club, who secured their return to the top flight by winning the Championship earlier this month.

The one-time England international has struggled to hold down a first team place since Claude Puel arrived at the south coast club last summer, racking up just nine league starts though he has been in and out of the treatment room while he also missed the whole of the 2014/15 campaign through injury.

He scored the opener as the Saints beat relegated Middlesbrough on Saturday to take his total goals tally for the club to thirty-four.

Wilkins opens up over Chelsea sacking

Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has spoken candidly for the first time about his sacking from the London club last month.

And the 54-year-old has refuted speculation a boardroom bust-up with the club s billionaire owner Roman Abramovich was to blame for his dismissal.

Wilkins conceded he had exchanged some heated words with Abramovich after Chelsea s 3-1 aggregate loss to Inter Milan at the Round of 16 stage of last season s Champions League, but said he did not consider the exchange a falling out.

I don t think I fell out with him at all, Wilkins told Sky Sports. I think if that was the case, then I would have been removed from my position immediately.

There wasn t so much a row, there was a discussion.

I think everybody was, i…

Prediction: Inter Milan vs Napoli

Best Odds: 4/7

Bookmaker:

With all eyes falling on the San Siro this weekend, Inter Milan will welcome defending champions Napoli to town on Sunday night.

Inter Milan

As for the visitors, suffering a Champions League collapse earlier in the week as they watched their European adventure come to an end at the hands of Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan must dust themselves down quickly. However, although the Nerrazzuri might have come under some real scrutiny on Wednesday night, Simone Inzaghi’s men are enjoying a history-making domestic romp this season. Turning their attention back to Serie A duties holding a remarkable 16-point buffer at the top of the table, the former Lazio boss has seen his squad gain a string of praise from across Italy’s elite. In fact, des…

West Brom v Sunderland: Irvine era begins at home

New West Brom head coach Alan Irvine will be out to silence his doubters when they open their Premier League campaign against Sunderland.

Irvine s appointment – on a one-year rolling deal in June – was met with surprise and The Hawthorns outfit are among the favourites to be relegated.

The 56-year-old Scotsman had not held a first-team managerial position since being sacked by then third-tier outfit Sheffield Wednesday in February 2011.

Record signing Brown Ideye could prove key to West Brom s hopes, but after scoring five goals in 19 league appearances for Dynamo Kiev last term the forward s pre-season has been blighted by visa issues.

Joleon Lescott West Brom s other major signing, who joined on a free transfer from Manchester City will miss out wit…

Birmingham City 0 Sunderland 3: Late strikes stun hosts

Three goals in the last 13 minutes saw Sunderland into the League Cup third round at the expense of a dogged Birmingham City side.

The Premier League side, beaten finalists in this competition last season, were given a tough examination at St Andrew s on Wednesday by the hosts, who will be aggrieved by a 3-0 scoreline that does not reflect how close the second-round tie was.

Jordi Gomez struck with a dipping 25-yard drive to break the deadlock after 77 minutes, his first goal since joining from Wigan Athletic in the close-season, before Adam Johnson and Connor Wickham both found the net.

David Cotterill had earlier hit the post and Paul Caddis forced a save from Costel Pantilimon as Birmingham made a game of it.

The result means that Sunderland make it …
