Gary Neville has urged the FA to tie down their greatest asset Gareth Southgate ahead of England s first appearance in a major tournament final in 55 years.
The Three Lions are out to win the European Championship for the first time in their history on Sunday when they face Italy at Wembley Stadium.
Win or lose, this run to the final is the latest mark of the progress made by international football s perennial underachievers, who also made it to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup under Southgate.
And Neville believes English football chiefs must do all they can to keep the man who has masterminded these recent successes in charge for as long as possible.
He told Sky Sports: I said it four or five weeks ago that I thought that Gareth Southgate is our …
England defender Tyrone Mings has revealed his mental health plummeted during Euro 2020 when he was labeled the side s weakest link .
The 28-year-old Aston Villa man was drafted into the England XI in Harry Maguire s absence for the side s opening two Euro 2020 games against Croatia and Scotland.
Mings revealed he spoke to a psychologist to cope with the pressure in the build-up as his mental health plummeted due to the public s doubts about his ability.
“I did have a tough time in the lead-up to the opening game against Croatia, Mings told The Sun. “I think I’m a lot more hardened to outside influences now, but my mental health did plummet.
And I have no shame in admitting that because there was so many unknowns about me going to that game.

Borussia Dortmund winger Jakub Blaszczykowski declared 2012 was the best year of his career as it stands.
The 27-year-old swept to Bundesliga and DFB Pokal success on the domestic front under manager Jurgen Klopp, before enjoying a Euro 2012 outing with Poland.
2012 was truly the best year of my career so far, Blaszczykowski told Kicker.
But I will not spend too much time with that memory, as I want to enjoy another best year of my career again soon.
I used to score a lot of goals for Poland, but found it difficult with Dortmund. Now, Klopp often advises me to break into the box more often, and not to only remain on the wing.
I was afforded my chances to, and took them. After waiting a long time, I have reached the next stage of my developme…
Our second game of Monday Night Football in Week 3 will take us to Cincinnati, where the Bengals will aim for their first win of the season and likely be without starting quarterback Joe Burrow.
On the other side, the Los Angeles Rams will look to pick up the pieces after a tough Week 2 loss against the San Francisco 49ers, where Matthew Stafford impressed for a second straight week.
What will Stafford have for us tonight? Let’s break his MNF odds down below.
Don’t forget to look at our full-game Rams vs. Bengals predictions, as well as our MNF props column.

We’re into Week 6 in NFL betting, and the schedule makers have served up a potential game of the year with the Bills heading to Arrowhead to face the Chiefs.

Before Sunday’s action kicks off, I’m bringing you two of my favorite plays, looking at the league’s best receiving back — who has been given new life — and an unstoppable force at tight end. Check out my latest NFL prop picks below.

In a battle of bachelorette party hot spots, the Tennessee Titans come to South Beach to dance with the Miami Dolphins in the latest Week 14 odds. Given the near two-touchdown spread, much like those bachelorette bashes, things could get messy in the MNF odds.
Miami is moving up the power rankings, having won three straight while claiming the top spot in the AFC heading into Week 14. The Dolphins are playing just their second home game in the past 42 days, owning a 4-1 ATS mark as hosts in the NFL odds this season.
Tennessee, on the other hand, is one of the worst road bets in the league, bringing a 1-5 ATS mark as a visitor to Hard Rock Stadium. Florida hasn’t been kind to the Titans, with the team losing by a combined score of 54-20 in stops at Jackson…
This week’s NFL preseason action opens on Thursday night with the Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots.
With neither team deploying their A offenses, I don’t expect either to be firing on all cylinders in my Eagles vs. Patriots predictions and NFL picks for Thursday, August 15.
Eagles vs Patriots prediction
My best betUnder 35.5 (-105 at FanDuel)
My analysis
We’re taking the Under on the total of 35.5 despite that number having risen two points since opening. We’re doing this because of the potential for poor quarterback play.
The Philadelphia Eagles will likely see a lot of Tanner McKee and Will Grier, neither of whom is likely to cause the New England Patriots huge issues.
Given that Jalen Hurt…
Pep Guardiola has said Erling Haaland is one of the best players in the world but he refused to discuss his interest in the striker after Manchester City landed Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League quarter-final draw.
Haaland is one of the names on City’s radar this summer and the other Premier League clubs still in the competition will be relieved to have avoided the 20-year-old. Chelsea will face Porto and Liverpool will be out for revenge when they meet Real Madrid, who beat them in the 2018 final.
